If you are using a Branded App on Apple devices, you might receive the following message from Apple Developer Relations: your Apple Push Services Certificate will expire, and you must generate a new one.

What to do?

Luckily, you don't need to do anything. The OfficeRnD engineering team generates this certificate, and our automation system will handle it. The automated process ensures that certificates are regenerated without manual intervention

As long as you grant us all the required permissions and accept the latest Apple agreements, the certificate will be regenerated when we update your app to a newer version.

The renewal process is initiated automatically when a certificate has one month of validity remaining, ensuring continual service.

Moreover, even if the certificate expires, the app will remain in the App Store, and you will always be able to use it. However, push notifications won't be sent until the certificate has been regenerated. During this period, the app's core functionalities, such as browsing content and using offline features, remain unaffected. Push notifications will automatically resume once the certificate is updated.

Resolution steps in case of expired certificates

  1. Confirm the certificate's status within the Apple Developer platform.

  2. Verify that the automatic renewal system is operational, or manually re-initiate the certificate generation.

  3. Once the certificate is updated, ensure the app links back to the new certificate to restore push notification functionality.
