Some organizations require admin approval for bookings made in the Member Portal. These bookings are created as tentative until approved.
If tentative bookings are left unattended and the start time passes, they become lapsed bookings. This article explains what lapsed bookings are, what happens to them, and how to prevent them.
What are lapsed bookings?
Tentative bookings require approval before they can be confirmed. Until then, they still occupy the resource's time slot in the booking schedule. If a tentative booking is not approved before the start time, it lapses. Once that happens, it becomes a past booking, and members can no longer make changes to it.
Key points about lapsed bookings:
Members cannot cancel or update lapsed bookings.
Booking fees are not applied to lapsed bookings.
On the Admin Portal, lapsed bookings appear as "Lapsed" under Operations > Members in the member's profile.

How to prevent lapsed bookings?
Admins can prevent lapsed bookings by setting up automatic cancellations for tentative bookings. To do that:
Go to Settings > Calendar > Bookings & Calendar.
In the Automatic tentative booking cancellation field, enter the number of hours before the start time when tentative bookings should be automatically canceled.
If you leave the field empty, tentative bookings will never be automatically canceled.
If you enter "0" in the field, unapproved tentative bookings will be automatically canceled at the start of the booking.
If you enter "1" in the field, unapproved tentative bookings will be automatically canceled 1 hour before the start of the booking.
